I am a communications and media specialist with significant experience working
on scientific as well as historical and cultural topics, especially in the
Russian Arctic. I was based in Moscow for many years working both as a news
correspondent and documentarian, writing articles for various publications
and working in photography and video in what evolved into a multimedia career
path.
Moscow proved to be an ideal base from which to pursue this kind of work,
for Russia and the other former Soviet republics constitute a veritable treasure
trove of unusual subject matter. My work there often involved heading into
remote locations with experts in volcanology, specialists in prehistoric animals
including woolly mammoths, and ethnographers documenting the revival of ancient
practices among scores of minority peoples whose traditions had been repressed
not just by Soviet Communism but also autocratic tsars before the 1917 revolution.
Ultimately it came time to leave Moscow and relocate to Cape Cod where I was
able to utilize my media skills to help the International Fund for Animal
Welfare in its work assisting animals around the world. Now I am looking for
new horizons to pursue, drawing on the varied background that I have to offer.
