There are about 15 different reindeer herding
cultures spread out across Siberia. The Nenets and Khanty are the
largest. The forest Nenets live in cabins, while the tundra Nenets
migrate with their reindeer herds up the Yamal penninsula during the
summer. Bill Gasperini flew by helicopter from Beloyarsky to Numto,
where he hiked about 15 kilometers to a region which the Khanty call
Sasijohan. | |
