VIDEO WORK- Eskimo Hunters Near Alaska(August 1999)

This piece focuses on Eskimo whale and walrus hunters living in the remote Chukotka peninsula, across the Bering Strait from Alaska. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, native hunters have returned to their traditional hunting methods, often using walrus-skin boats to hunt for their subsistence. Yet even in this distant place, they adhere to an international quota system and are fully aware that many in the outer world criticize the practice of whale hunting..
