SVEN HAAKANSON Sven "Fisherman" Haakanson Jr., is a Kodiak Island native and archaeology grad student at Harvard University. A self-proclaimed fisherman, Sven grew up on an island where fishing has been the main industry for thousands of years. Fascinated by his ancestral ties to Siberia, Sven taught English in Magadan for a year. He plans to write his doctoral thesis on the Nenets, a nomadic group of reindeer herders who live in the Yamal Peninsula in arctic Siberia. |
